The Fall Sports season began last Thursday with a cross-country meet at Van Cortlandt Park. Twenty EMS boys and girls took to the course, battling opponents from thirteen other schools from New York and New Jersey. The boys’ team, comprised of sixth and seventh graders, came in 6th in the race, behind the winners, Collegiate School, but ahead of other rivals such as Horace Mann and Dwight-Englewood. Leading the team was a pack of seventh graders, Justin Trout, Carter Hirschhorn, Jon Candler, and Richard Nelson, who came in 39th, 44th, 45th, and 46th, respectively, in a field of nearly 200 runners. Seventh grader Jongho Park was the team's fifth place runner, followed closely by Kevin Lu and sixth grader Zane Diaz. In the girls’ race, eighth graders Egan Sachs-Hecht and Evan Gurian placed well in their first race of the season. Due to injury and illness, the girls were not able to field a complete team. Given the youth on the squad, hopes are high for marked improvement throughout the season. Check in for more updates soon! (Post: Mr. Cooper)
