Photos from Spring Break Mini Camp

About forty EMS students in prekindergarten through third grade enjoyed a great week in our Spring Break Mini Camp held March 18-22, 2013.  With the theme of  "Under the Sea", students ventured in the magical world of the ocean through arts projects, science experiments and hands on learning. Students examined the parts of a fish and created "Gyotaku" fish prints, made sea stars using sand and glue, made interesting paper plate fish and created their very own ocean in a bottle. The students paired up with each other as they experimented with objects in fresh and salt water using a "Sink or Float" experiment and buddied up to read books about the ocean and its amazing creatures. During the week, students were also visited by the "Snakes and Scales" animal group to view and touch ocean creatures like a sea urchin, sea star and a Halloween crab. They also went to the Central Park Zoo and became "Penguin Scientists" while learning about life as a penguin.  Games in the Cohen Center and outside on the playground also were a great hit!  Thank you to our creative and dedicated teachers who helped make the week a big success! Thank you Ms. McConville, Ms. Greenlees, Ms. Arroyave and Ms. Sorrentino! And thank you to parents for sharing your young oceanographers with us for the week!
