EMS Fall Sports Update

The EMS Eagles had a soaring start to the 2012-2013 athletic season.  To start, the Boys' Cross Country team won their recent meet in Tenafly with Caleb Shaia finishing first in a time of 11:45.  Willy Hyer (4th), Jeremy Bronstein (5th) and Zane Diaz (6th) also helped lead the boys team to victory.  Kira Trout (5th) and Katie Anderson (8th) were the top finishers for the girls' team.  The Eagles ran against Tenafly, Midland Park, and Ho-Ho-Kus on Thursday.  The Eagles will run next Tuesday in Van Courtland Park.

The Boys' Soccer team defeated Tuxedo Park School on their turf, 2-1.  Ryan Zihenni and Pantelis Paliouras scored the goals for the Eagles, each receiving an assist from Alex May.  The Eagles were lead on defense by Galen Raab, Andrew Park, Noah Cha, Willy Del Rio, Alon Berkowitz, and Alex Wedgebury, all of whom shut down the high powered Tuxedo Park Offense.  Dylan Melisaratos was outstanding in goal, making a key free kick save in the 4th quarter.  The soccer team plays two home games next week; Tuesday vs. MKA and Wednesday vs. Collegiate.

The Girls' Tennis team took all 5 courts and the exhibition court in their season opener against Saddle River Day. Captain Hannah Wolfer lead the team with a convincing win on court 1.  Maddie Kachikian battled to win a long pro set showing great determination to close out her last game after multiple deuce points.  Melissa Sweetwood dominated on court 3 - besting her opponent in every game. Emma Bandazian and Isabella Pizzillo played a solid team on court 1 doubles and delivered a smart well played match. Lulu LoBue and Sophie Shin played their first real tennis match for the team and pulled out the win on court 2 doubles. Lilian Kogan was an excellent sport, gave her all as our only exhibition player on the day and won her sets as well.

The Lady Eagles play 3 home matches next week; Tuesday vs Horace Mann, Wednesday vs Saddle River, and Thursday vs Trinity.
